Clayton Kershaw is as good as it gets when it comes to modern day MLB pitchers. The Los Angeles Dodgers‘ ace had yet another spectacular regular season in 2014, posting a ridiculous 21-3 record with a miniscule 1.77 ERA. He was dominant, plain and simple.

For his efforts, Kershaw took home his third career Cy Young Award on Wednesday. His victory this season marks the third time he’s won the NL Cy Young Award in the past four seasons, with the only time he didn’t win it being a second place finish in 2012.

Unlike 2013, where he received all but one first place vote, 2014 was a unanimous Cy Young win for the ridiculously good left-hander.

At this rate Kershaw is on his way to becoming one of the best hurlers in MLB history. But from this point forward, there will more attention paid to what he does in the postseason than the regular season. Some have started calling him the Peyton Manning of baseball — dominant in the regular season, but not quite the same come playoff time.

You can argue that the St. Louis Cardinals are Kershaw’s kryptonite, as they’ve has his number in the past two postseasons, including two losses this year in the NLDS and two in the 2013 NLCS.

Regardless, the Cy Young is about regular season performance. There’s absolutely no doubt who the best pitcher in baseball was from April to September this year.
