Signing Max Scherzer Should Be Los Angeles Dodgers’ Top Offseason Priority

They’re looking to trade one of their four outfielders, so clearly the Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t overly concerned with their lineup right now. Even though they will be looking to add a shortstop, perhaps Alexei Ramirez, they don’t have a main focus this offseason. They already have a solid rotation, but adding one more ace could put them over the top.

That’s why the Dodgers have to show off their riches and sign ace Max Scherzer to a multi-year contract this offseason. If they want to succeed in the playoffs, they may just need to have an unstoppable rotation, which Scherzer would essentially give them. Even with him, though, current ace Clayton Kershaw would have to be a lot better in October.

In Los Angeles, they’ve made it obvious that they’re willing to spend whatever money it takes to field a winning team and up until the playoffs, that philosophy has worked. Obviously, just getting to the playoffs isn’t going to cut it for the team with the highest payroll in the sport. They need to reach the World Series and win. With Scherzer, they’d be the favorites to do that out of the NL.

AL pitchers have a track record of success when moving to the NL, and there’s no reason that should be any different with Scherzer, who is still very much in his prime. That alone could give the Dodgers the inside track on the ace. If he wishes to pitch in the NL, the Dodgers could very well be his choice.

If that’s the case, L.A. needs to act swiftly and ink him to a deal. Doing so could get them over the hump and into the World Series, somewhere they haven’t been in quite some time.
