Free agent infielder Stephen Drew endured his worst statistical season in the big leagues last season, posting an ineffective .162 batting average with seven home runs and 26 RBI in 300 total plate appearances between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. Drew, a .256 career hitter, has drawn marginal interest on the open market among teams interested in bolstering their infield depth, and will likely land a bench role for the 2015 season.

According to multiple sources, Drew could prove to be a fallback option for the New York Mets, who boast depth issues across their infield. Drew's primary position is SS, where he owns a respectable .979 fielding percentage in nine seasons, but also has some experience playing second base. He has also been more effective offensively in the National League than the American League, posting a .765 OPS in seven seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Washington Nationals could potentially target Drew as a backup option at second base. The 31-year-old infielder has logged 274.0 career innings at his secondary position, committing four errors in 136 chances. Drew hasn't played in the NL since 2012, when he recorded an ugly .193 batting average with two home runs and 12 RBI in 40 games with the Diamondbacks.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, like the Nationals, could be in the market of adding a veteran role player to their bench, which Cafardo notes makes Drew an option. Drew has spent a majority of his nine-year career on the West Coast, playing seven seasons with the Diamondbacks and one with the Oakland Athletics. He's struggled in two of the past three seasons, but posted a solid .777 OPS in 124 games with the Boston Red Sox in 2013.

Drew played half a season with the Oakland Athletics in 2012, logging a .250 batting average with five home runs and 16 RBI in 172 plate appearances. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the A's also have interest in free agent shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, which means it's unlikely for the green and gold to tender an offer to Jed Lowrie, who slashed a below average .249/.321/.355 batting line in 136 games last season.

The New York Post has reported that Drew could become a fallback option for the New York Yankees at shortstop if they're unable to land a potential replacement for Derek Jeter. Drew was hardly effective in 46 games with the Bronx Bombers in 2014, recording a microscopic .150 batting average with three home runs and 15 RBI. Drew would serve as a mere stop-gap if the Yankees were to offer him a contract.
