Second base is one of the weakest positions in baseball. There are a plethora of great first basemen and outfielders, but second base is not as affluent with talent. That doesn't mean picking the 10 best was an easy task. There are still 15 very good players at this position. Here are the top 10 in MLB.

Last season, Javier Baez was not very good. He was given 52 games to try to find his footing, but he still only had 36 hits. While he wasn't hitting well, he did hit seven home runs in his first month in the league. That would translate to 42 home runs over a full season. He needs to hit for a better average, but his power could propel him within the top five by mid-season.

Despite his age and injury history, Chase Utley is still a top-tier second baseman. He would be so much better if he was in a better position with his team. The Philadelphia Phillies are not going to be good at all this season, meaning Utley is stuck in a lineup with nothing else.

8. Dee Gordon

Dee Gordon looked like a great option for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, so why did they feel the need to trade him to upgrade to Howie Kendrick (who did not make this list)? He stole 64 bases, which is an insane stat that cannot be completely overlooked. The Miami Marlins got a very good player.

7. Neil Walker

Neil Walker is one of the most underrated players in the league. Nobody gives him credit for the resurgence of the Pittsburgh Pirates, but last season, he hit .271 with 23 home runs. While it is obvious that this team is led by Andrew McCutchen, Walker cannot be overlooked any longer.

6. Dustin Pedroia

It doesn't seem like Dustin Pedroia will ever reach the MVP status he had earlier in his career, but he is still an amazing second baseman. He can bring a certain toughness to the baseball field for the Boston Red Sox. With their current acquisitions, he could have a bounce-back year.

5. Jason Kipnis

This is where the list starts to get really complicated. Jason Kipnis is a name that not all baseball fans know, but the ones who do know him know he is one of the best at his position. Despite having a down season, he still hits all the necessary tools. He has the speed to steal bases, while also being able to knock in runs.

4. Brian Dozier

Brian Dozier could be the biggest surprise in baseball from last season. Nobody expected him to put up the numbers he did. He got on base a lot more, and in turn broke the 20 steal mark. He also hit 23 home runs to show some versatility. He may be the only bright spot on the current Minnesota Twins roster.

3. Jose Altuve

Jose Altuve had a major breakout in 2014, and some would argue he belongs at the top of this list. He won the batting title and stole 56 bases a year ago, and Altuve is the key to the future of the Houston Astros.

2. Ian Kinsler

Ian Kinsler was stolen by the Detroit Tigers in the Prince Fielder trade. He gives the team a presence outside of Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez on the offensive side.

Robinson Cano is the best second baseman in the league and there really isn't much of an argument. He lost some of his power moving to Seattle, but he dropped his strikeout numbers. He will only continue to get better with the Mariners.
