The San Francisco Giants have gone on quite an amazing run over the last five years. Three World Series wins later, they’ve come to terms on some no-brainer moves by keeping both manager Bruce Bochy and Brian Sabean in town through 2019, but there’s an interesting twist in the deal.

Promoting Sabean from GM to executive VP of baseball operations makes a ton of sense considering the success this organization has experienced under his watch. Since 1997, the Giants have gone from floundering when he took over into the dynasty they’ve become.

Bochy is the most successful manager in Giants history, and one actually has to wonder why this took so long in his case. There was no promotion to be had for Bochy like in Sabean’s case, so this move should have come within weeks after the World Series championship in order to send a message that this organization is incredibly thankful for what Bochy has accomplished.

New GM Bobby Evans has been with the Giants for over 20 years in numerous roles, but he most recently served as VP and assistant GM. Essentially, the brain trust that has been doing right things all along will continue to handle things, just in a slightly different manner. Thus, there’s reason to believe that we could see a few more World Series titles end up in San Francisco; although unlike the Giants’ brass, the personnel on the field might have to be changed here and there in order to do so.

Giants' Johnny Cueto Gets Nailed In Head With Line Drive

This was a rather bizarre situation. San Francisco Giants hurler Johnny Cueto was struck in the head by a line drive on his first pitch against Oakland on Monday. Instead of coming right out of the game to be examined, Cueto remained on the mound. After the game, he went to the hospital just to be safe. He's fine according to reports, but why Giants manager Bruce Bochy let him pitch is beyond me.
