5 Biggest San Francisco Giants Rumors You Need To Know

Other than yet another ring ceremony, San Francisco Giants fans haven't had much to cheer about in early April. Their offense has been terrible, injuries are ubiquitous and the pitching hasn't lived up to the high standard this season. That being said, the team is playing well in a crucial series against the Los Angeles Dodgers while rookie Chris Heston has looked mighty impressive. Here's a list of five rumors swirling around the Giants.

5. Adam Duvall Should Be Called Up Soon

Duvall had a lackluster spring training, but he's enjoyed a promising start to his minor league assignment so far. He leads the Sacramento River Cats in batting average (.414), RBIs (15) and slugging percentage (.776). With the Giants' offense desperate to gain traction, Bruce Bochy might not be able to resist calling up the red-hot Duvall. The corner infielder certainly turned a lot of heads when he hit for the cycle earlier this week.

This rumor was seemingly put to bed during spring training, but talk persists that Brandon Belt will see more action in the outfield this season. He's an excellent defensive first baseman, but Belt might have to become versatile to earn his keep. It seems unlikely, but if Andrew Susac continues his development, the Giants might ponder permanently moving Buster Posey to first base. This would supplant Belt, who could end up on the trading block.

Things are looking up for the Giants lately, as they just defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second time in a row. With a series victory under his belt, general manager Bobby Evans will breath a sigh of relief. In a recent interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Evans admitted that he feels pressure to sustain the team's winning ways. With that said, he also cautioned that he wouldn't make any frantic trades this early in the season.

Matt Cain has been dotingly referred to as "The Horse" for most of his Giants career, but are his days with the saddle numbered? After years of eating up innings, Cain hasn't been able to remain healthy for some time now. Information about his condition has been sparse, but it was recently reported that he hasn't even begun to play catch yet. That's never a good sign, and it seems the team is bracing for another extended period without Cain.

Putting aside the recent success against the Dodgers, Chris Heston has been the brightest star for the Giants in an otherwise bleak 2015 campaign. Pitchers are often called up to replace injured starters, but Heston looks like he should stick with the big league team from now on. After three starts, his ERA is hovering at an impeccable 0.87. Heston doesn't offer much velocity, but his breaking pitches are highly deceptive and unpredictable.

Giants' Johnny Cueto Gets Nailed In Head With Line Drive

This was a rather bizarre situation. San Francisco Giants hurler Johnny Cueto was struck in the head by a line drive on his first pitch against Oakland on Monday. Instead of coming right out of the game to be examined, Cueto remained on the mound. After the game, he went to the hospital just to be safe. He's fine according to reports, but why Giants manager Bruce Bochy let him pitch is beyond me.
