The Oakland Athletics are most likely going to be very active before the trade deadline due to their unsuccessful start to the season. General Manager Billy Beane will want to work his magic once again in order to attempt to get the right combination of players who will win the World Series. In order to achieve this kind of success, here are the players who must be dealt before the 2015 trade deadline.

5. Scott Kazmir

The only reason the A’s must trade Kazmir is because they would be able to leverage a good trade. No one wants to see Kazmir go since he has been pitching so well, but he will be a free agent after this season and it is unlikely the Athletics will be able to afford him for 2016. The A’s might has well trade him now and get some good players in return.

Abad was Oakland’s lefty specialist last season but he has been less than impressive this year. He has been very inconsistent and has already been charged with two losses this season. I say trade Abad and bring up switch pitcher Pat Venditte - it will be like adding a lefty and a righty to the bullpen!

3. Nate Freiman

Nate who? Freiman has yet to play a major league game this season due to a lower back injury he incurred this spring. He was activated last week but was sent directly to Triple-A Nashville because Oakland has a surplus of first basemen. The Athletics have a lot of potential talent down in Triple-A that they could bring up if Freiman was not taking up a spot on the 40-man roster.

2. Craig Gentry

Gentry was recently called back up to the majors after being designated for assignment back in early May. However, Oakland does not really need him anymore. With Coco Crisp back, Sam Fuld covering center, Josh Reddick in right and Billy Burns as the young rookie backup outfielder, Gentry is not really needed. He is great defensively and it would be worth trading him to see if the Athletics could get any good prospects in return.

O’Flaherty has been awful this season and he is now on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. Before being put on the DL, he had an 11.57 ERA with nine earned runs in seven innings pitched. O’Flaherty came to Oakland in 2014 and was supposed to be a strong left handed reliever for the A's. He has yet to prove his potential, so the A’s must deal him before the trade deadline.
