5 Biggest San Diego Padres Rumors Heading Into June

Just because the San Diego Padres were extremely busy this offseason doesn't mean they're done making trades. They have several options: They can beef up their offense, shore up their pitching staff or rebuild their farm system through trades. They could also hope that their players on the DL fix the first two problems on their own. Here are the top five rumors surrounding the Padres heading into June.

Morrow is nearing a return from his shoulder inflammation as he recently threw 54 pitches in a rehab assignment. Odrisamer Despaigne has been brilliant in his absence and has made it difficult to put him back in the bullpen. Ian Kennedy is another candidate to go to the bullpen when Morrow returns, but either way Bud Black will have a tough decision on his hands.

The Brewers are deep in the cellar of the NL Central and have to consider rebuilding their farm system. Seguara can fetch the Brewers good prospects, and the Padres are in desperate need of production from the shortstop position. Padres shortstops are only hitting .200 this season while Segura is hitting a solid .286, so this trade will significantly help both sides. This is all dependent on the Brewers making Segura available, of course.

3. Fix Rotation Issues With Johnny Cueto

The Padres pitching rotation has had some issues throughout the season, especially Ian Kennedy. The Cincinnati Reds aren't in a much better place than the Brewers and it's unlikely they will be able to re-sign Cueto this offseason. Padres' scouts have been spotted at Cueto's games lately, so they may pull the trigger and get another ace to put in their staff. Cueto has been great, but the Padres may not want to further deplete their farm system.

2. Justin Upton Trade Coming If Struggles Continue

If the Padres do not start gaining some ground on the Giants and Dodgers, then they may be forced to become sellers at the deadline. Upton has been great this season, but he may not want to return to a team that doesn't make the playoffs. This may force the Padres to use Upton to rebuild their depleted farm system for upcoming seasons.

1. Go All-In And Trade For Troy Tulowitzki

Much like with Cueto, this would require a lot of prospects that the Padres might not want to give up. This trade would, however, turn their weakest spot into one of their strengths. The Padres' shortstops have been atrocious this season, and Tulo is one of the best in the game when healthy. This move could cost the Padres if Tulo were to get hurt again, but it could also lead them to the World Series. Will Preller pull the trigger one more time?
