Domonic Brown’s Homerless Triple-A Season Just Another Reason Philadelphia Phillies Should Let Him Go

For the great majority of Philadelphia Phillies fans who have seen enough of Domonic Brown, the word out of Triple-A Lehigh Valley (Pa.) can be considered very good news. Brown is hitting .250 with zero homers in 196 at-bats for the IronPigs.

Ostensibly, Brown was sent down to the minors as a rehab assignment but he has given the team no reason to bring him up with a lackluster performance for Lehigh Valley.

That can only mean Brown’s days are numbered to a precious few with an organization that has given him more than enough opportunities to prove himself. Except for a 27-homer season in 2013, Brown has never had a plus win against replacement (WAR) stat, which essentially means the Phillies could have put anyone in his place and gotten better production. They often did.

There are other reasons to get rid of Brown that extend beyond this season’s woeful numbers. The Phillies would love to see what they have in Cody Asche and Darin Ruf, two young players who have put up outstanding minor league numbers before they were promoted to the big club. With Ben Revere holding down one of the outfield spots, there is only so much playing time to go around.

Then there the question of playing time for some of the stars who need to get promoted from Double-A Reading (Pa.), and one of those players is outstanding center field prospect Roman Quinn. The last thing the Phillies want to see is Brown blocking Quinn’s advancement.

Phillies fans have seen enough of Brown and now it’s time the organization cuts ties with a player who now looks like he will never produce at an adequate MLB level.
