The Oakland Athletics seem destined for a fire sale come July and have some players who are drawing attention from teams around the league. At the top of the list for calling teams is the talented Ben Zobrist, who is capable of playing in both the infield and outfield.

The Washington Nationals have recently expressed interest in acquiring the veteran from Oakland. Washington recently lost starting right fielder Jayson Werth to a broken wrist, and he is expected to be sidelined until mid-August.

That injury seems like it could spell trouble for the Nationals, but they are actively seeking to find a replacement for Werth in the starting lineup. Seemingly, they have focused their attention on the Oakland outfielder.

Ben Zobrist would make a lot of sense for the Nationals as he could step in and start in right field and the team could keep their momentum going. Losing Werth definitely hurts, but their lineup is loaded from top to bottom and they are anchored by an outstanding rotation.

Washington has a solid farm system and could pique the interest of Billy Beane and company as a potential trade partner.

Adding Zobrist at the cost of a couple prospects seems like a win-win deal for both clubs involved. It would give the Nationals another talented player in the lineup to go along with Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon, Ian Desmond and Ryan Zimmerman. And for Oakland, they would get a few young controllable players, which is what Billy Beane always desires.

This could be a move that helps elevate the Washington Nationals from just a playoff team to a World Series contender, which is something they are shooting for.
