5 New York Mets Who Deserve All-Star Consideration

Outside of David Wright, not too many New York Mets are getting too many votes in the all-star balloting. Obviously, Wright won’t be participating in this year’s game, but the Mets do have a slew of players that could. After all, New York is in the thick of the race in the NL East. Here are five Mets who warrant consideration for the 2015 NL All-Star Team.

A recent slump has brought his numbers down a little, and granted the competition at first base in the National League is quite stiff, but Duda at least deserves to be in the conversation. He's been a complete hitter for the Mets all season, providing power and more than holding his own against lefties. If he can break out of his slump, his OPS will rise well above .900 and get him in the mix for an all-star spot.

Obviously, with an ERA in the 4s, Colon doesn't stand out among all-star candidates, but he's towards the top of the National League in wins, which is worth something, especially since he plays on one of the worst offensive teams in baseball. Colon has also been a fan favorite as a batter this season, and considering what he's still doing in his early 40s, he represents everything the All-Star game is about.

3. Matt Harvey

Despite a couple small hiccups, Harvey has been good all season. His ERA is just above 3, his strikeouts are high, and he's had a handful of truly impressive outings in which he looked the part of an all-star. Between those numbers and the fact that he's Matt Harvey and brings a ton of name recognition, on top of coming back after missing all of last season, it's easy to see why Harvey has a good chance of making the all-star team.

2. Jeurys Familia

Familia is in the midst of an amazing season. The Mets have needed him to take things to the next level, and he's done just that. With an ERA of 1.30, a WHIP of 0.80, and just one blown save this season, there's no doubt that Familia has been one of the best closers in the National League this season, and it'd be a shame if he's not rewarded with a trip to the All-Star Game.

Somehow, deGrom is putting up even better numbers this year than he did last season when he won Rookie of the Year, and that's even with a couple rough outings. He's been the Mets' best starting pitcher this season, and he seems to be getting better as the season goes along. It's only taken a year for deGrom to establish himself as a frontline starter in the big leagues, and he's certainly deserving of a spot on the NL All-Star Team.
