Boston Red Sox’s David Ortiz Looks Like He Is Figuring Things Out

Ortiz at bat

Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The 2015 Boston Red Sox have been one of the biggest disappointments that we have seen come around these parts in a long time. It seems as though they are completely incapable of doing anything right. They can’t hit, run, pitch or field. They say it is the change in the strike zone, but yet all these other teams seem to have no problem scoring run after run. Well, there has been one bright spot in this debacle. It looks like David Ortiz might be coming around.

Ortiz has really struggled this season and especially against lefties. Many people and myself included wondered if Ortiz was finally showing his age at 39. Perhaps his bat speed was slowing down or maybe he is affected by the strike zone. I don’t know about anyone else but I am getting so sick of that excuse. Recently, Ortiz has started to come around.

In the last four games, he has hit three home runs and none of them have been cheap. He also hit a single the other way in the Toronto Blue Jays series. He finally is starting to hit the ball with some real authority. That has been one of the big problems with this lineup. With Ortiz, Pablo Sandoval and Mike Napoli all struggling, they have not been able to sustain any sort of consistent offense. Forget about home run threats, this is a team that in May couldn’t seem to score a run even if they were given batting practice fastballs to hit. Having Ortiz finally start coming around gives them at least one power threat.

Let’s face facts — watching Ortiz hitting long bombs might be all Red Sox fans have to look forward to.
