5 Kansas City Royals Who Deserve 2015 MLB All-Star Game Consideration

In case you somehow haven't heard, somehow, the Kansas City Royals currently lead eight of the nine position battles in the American League in All-Star voting. While haters and naysayers around MLB are currently lambasting the election of Omar Infante and other, uhh, less-deserving players, KC still has plenty of All-Star-worthy talent on the roster. Here are the five Royals who deserve it the most.

There's currently a dearth of top-notch talent at the shortstop position in the American League, but Alcides Escobar is an elite-level defender and a sneaky-good offensive player this year. Boston's Xander Bogaerts is really the only AL shortstop with an objectively better case that Esky, but Alcides still provides enough with highlight reel defense and respectable offense to warrant consideration, especially as a reserve.

Sure, I get it -- Josh Donaldson could be the AL MVP this year, and he deserves the starter spot at this year's Midsummer Classic. Still, KC's Mike Moustakas is a legit Comeback Player of the Year candidate with the best batting average and OBP among full-time AL third baseman, not to mention a 2.1 WAR. His ability to hit the ball to the opposite field, finally, makes him a remarkably improved player and a worthy All-Star.

3. Alex Gordon

Nobody can deny that Alex Gordon provides the best defense among all left fielders in baseball. This guy has all the tools -- great defensive range, a cannon that intimidates opposing baserunners, an impressively balanced offensive style that yields a bunch of doubles and the most walks among all American League outfielders. Don't let Jose Bautista or David Price or any of the other complainers convince you otherwise; Gordo deserves this.

2. Wade Davis

Royals skipper Ned Yost will add his best reliever, setup man Wade Davis, to an impressive All-Star bullpen this year, and it would be hard to fault him for it. Davis' 0.31 ERA is the second-lowest in baseball among anyone with more than seven innings pitched in 2015. That convincing number can only be bested by that of New York Yankees closer Dellin Betances, who surely deserves a spot in that same ASG bullpen.

Lorenzo Cain is a no-brainer for this season's All-Star Game, and only uber-mega-superstar Mike Trout can claim to be more deserving of a starter's role this season. Cain's 2.8 WAR is second in the AL only to the aforementioned five-tool freak, and Lo constantly proves his greatness with strong offensive skills and incredible defense. He's one of the most exciting players in baseball right now, and he's an obvious choice as an All-Star.
