Boston Red Sox Lack Heart

Farrell looking shocked

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox have easily been one of the most disappointing teams of 2015. They can’t seem to do anything right and get going on all cylinders. When they pitch well, they can’t hit. When they hit, their starting pitchers get nailed. When both aspects go well, someone either makes a crucial error or the bullpen falls apart. Things appear to have gotten better recently, but who knows how long that will last.

Why can they not get going in any area? I feel it has a lot to do with the players. There is loads and loads of talent on this team but the players don’t look hungry. They seem to be outplayed in every aspect of the game. I miss the 2013 team — they didn’t have the most talent on the field but were always there for each other and seemed to find a way to win, no matter what. It is almost like they tore apart what made that team so special by getting rid of a good part of that roster.

I like the fact that Boston picked up Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval. I think the problem is that neither player are dirt dogs, guys who might get their uniform dirty doing whatever they can to win a game. It is those kind of teams that do well and win their divisions. Look at the Baltimore Orioles or the Toronto Blue Jays. Boston’s players are unquestionably superior. But these teams have the players who have heart and guts and are hungry and that is why they are winning.

Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz, Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts are dirt dogs. They need the rest of their team to join them.
