Los Angeles Dodgers Rumors: Yasiel Puig's Act Wearing Thin On Teammates

Although manager Don Mattingly and the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ front office continue to downplay how Yasiel Puig‘s actions and personality affect the team, some behind the scenes incidents came to light on Tuesday.

Puig has always done things on the field that could be conceived as lazy, or even stupid, but the Dodgers have just seemed to brush it under the rug or turn a blind eye to it. But with the smoking guns that have now come out through the media, it makes one wonder how Puig is still wearing Dodger blue.

On a regular basis, Puig is late for games, and teammates have been critical of his routine in the batting cage and weight room. But the biggest issue seems to be Puig’s sense of entitlement. Earlier this season, Puig argued with teammates Zack Greinke and Justin Turner over the Dodgers’ rule of only allowing wives and girlfriends to travel with the team. Apparently, someone in Puig’s posse caught the ire of Turner and Greinke, which resulted in Puig and Turner coming extremely close to fighting.

Last season, the Dodgers’ team bus was headed down the streets of Chicago, and the veterans sent some of the rookies to get some pizza to bring back as part of rookie hazing. But some of the veterans didn’t want to wait so they exited the bus. When the bus was ready to depart, Puig was outside looking for his suitcase in the luggage bay after ignoring a number of requests to get on the bus. Greinke got off the bus, grabbed the closest suitcase to Puig and tossed it in the road. If not for J.P. Howell holding Puig back, Greinke and Puig would’ve brawled in the street.

Even Puig’s uniform number, 66, is the result of itch Mitch Poole, the Dodgers’ clubhouse manager, referencing Puig’s eccentric personality. “I thought it’d be funny to give him number 66, to reference 666, like he was Diablo,” Poole said in an interview. The fact that even the clubhouse manager thinks Puig is a divisive figure is extremely troubling.

“We’ve talked about this,” one anonymous Dodgers player said. “At this point, it would be addition by subtraction.” This is an extremely damning statement about Puig. Everyone knew that he was a bit of a handful, but as it turns out, he’s arrogant, selfish and a terrible teammate the Dodgers should look to send elsewhere as soon as possible. As great a talent as Puig is, he’s only holding the team back at this point. Dodgers president Andrew Friedman needs to dump the water out before Puig sinks the whole boat.
