Another day, another loss for the Cincinnati Reds. What is bothersome about their series with the Milwaukee Brewers was not the lack of execution by their offense nor was it the inability to get outs by their pitchers, but the lack of fight the team showed throughout the series.

To say this team was embarrassed this series is putting it gently. To put it bluntly:

They were shellacked.

They were taken behind the woodshed and beaten to a pulp.

When you not only get swept, but get outscored 25-5 in a three-game series you have some issues going on.

There were numerous times throughout the series where they seemed sluggish. Once the Brewers took the lead in each game it would seem as if all the energy was sucked out of the Reds. They would make contact on a pitch and seem to jog down the base paths.

At times, it felt as if it were already the home run derby. When the Reds pitched, the Brewers made it seem like the Reds were pitching beach balls down the middle of the plate. This, however, was not reciprocated as the Reds offense struggled mightily, scoring only five runs on 21 hits in the entire series.

Yes, the Brewers were a hot team entering the series, but that is not an excuse to just roll over and give up. This team needs to look itself in the mirror and identify its issues and work to fix them quickly, before they start losing viewers.

This team has been up and down all year. When hitting thrives, the pitching is dismal and vice versa. If it wants to be respectable team for the remainder the offense and pitching needs to get on the same page. Injuries should not be used as an excuse. The Reds have produced wins without those on the disabled list.

Give the Brewers credit, they steamrolled through the Reds and will continue their hot streak. The only thing Reds fans can hope is that this embarrassment of a series serves as a (albeit late) wake-up call for the team.
