Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez has had his fair share of miscues over the past two weeks. His gaffes defensively may have some wishing Zack Cozart miraculously regained full health all of a sudden.

While he hasn’t matched Cozart’s defensive skill-set, one thing is for sure –he has made up for his defensive miscues with his bat.

Suarez went 3-for-4 on Monday with a home run and two runs batted in, but this kind of production has not been anything out of the ordinary to the Reds this season. In fact, as of late, the Reds have seen plenty of production offensively from Suarez.

The 23-year-old has been swinging a hot bat this season. Coming off of June where he hit .328, he has continued his hot season, batting .333 in four games in July. In those four games, he has hit one home run and driven in three runs. Over the last seven days, he has produced the following stat line: 16 ABs, six hits, .375 avg., one HR and five RBIs.

Given the Reds’ struggles offensively, they are willing to look past his recent defensive errors. What has been even more impressive has been his ability to get on base. Through tonight’s game, Suarez owns a .372 on-base percentage which is second-highest on the team.

While nobody can expect Suarez to keep up this type of production throughout the remainder of the season, if he can produce a batting average of .275 or higher, Reds fans will be pleased.

So for now, as long as he continues to produce the way he has as of late, then the Reds will continue to overlook his miscues and hope he can get to a point where the hot bat is unaccompanied by them.
