The New York Yankees have a 3.5-game lead on the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. The Bronx Bombers are 48-40 despite the poor production at second base and the shuffling of the pitching rotation.

Here are five deals that could possibly lead the Yankees to World Series No. 28.

Ranked the 21st best prospect in the Yankee farm system by MLB.com, shortstop Abiatal Avelino allowed the Oakland Athletics to bolster its farm system, something Billy Beane loves to do. Trading Ben Zobrist to the Yankees for Avelino gives the A’s the opportunity to groom its next shortstop after Marcus Siemen, who leads the league in errors.

4. Trade 2B Rob Refsnyder and RHP Adam Warren for 2B Brandon Phillips

Don’t think Refsnyder is the answer at second? Trade the prospect to the struggling Reds for Brandon Phillips. Phillips is signed through 2017. He is as automatic as they come at second base. Refsnyder got the call just before the All-Star break and got two games under his belt, with his first career home run coming on Sunday at Fenway Park.

3. Trade RHP Nathan Eovaldi to Cincinnati for RHP Mike Leake

Not the splash the Yanks are known for, but Mike Leake is heading into a contract year and is a quality starter who throws strikes. A straight-up trade would allow the Reds to bring in Eovaldi to a team managed by a former pitching coach.

2. Trade SS Tyler Wade to Washington for RHP Jordan Zimmermann

Tyler Wade, the club’s No. 20 prospect, is a defensive upgrade over Ian Desmond and the Yankees get one of the Washington National stud aces in Jordan Zimmermann.

Gary Sanchez was one of two Yankees prospects to compete in Sunday’s SiriusXM MLB Futures Game, and the Dominican Republic native went 1-for-2 with a double in the exhibition. With Brian McCann entrenched behind the plate, the Yankees could trade away Sanchez to Cincinnati for Johnny Cueto, who would instantly take over as the ace on the Yankee rotation.
