5 New York Yankees Who Should Be On the Trading Block Right Now

The trade deadline is fast approaching and I am looking at five New York Yankees who should be on the trading block. I preface this by acknowledging that I do realize the importance for the Yankees to cultivate their youth. While I see the potential for these players to possibly play a vital role this season, perhaps beyond, these are the players who at the very least could be included in a deal to net a huge piece for this season.

I would be shocked if the Yankees traded Warren (5-5, 3.65 ERA). But then again, I didn't expect the Yankees to move Jesus Montero when they did, or even Martin Prado, so anything is possible. Though I would be hard-pressed to believe the Yankees would move Warren, his name might be used to gauge interest. Warren is under team control, has proven he can effectively pitch in MLB, and could be part of a package to net a true front-line starter.

Judge, a CF, isn't going anywhere. The Yanks think too highly of him. Wait, we've heard this regarding prospects before (I mentioned Montero?). While I expect to see Judge making an impact for the Yankees in the near future -- currently .268 BA, one HR an 17 RBIs in 19 Triple-A games -- the 6-foot-7 prospect is a highly touted player who might have to be used to gain that front-line starter. If he's not traded, look for him in September.

3. Luis Severano

Could Severano (5-0, 1.75 ERA) be the brightest Yankees pitching prospect since Phil Hughes? Joba Chamberlin? Never mind. Well, Severano is 20 years old and already in Triple-A. As much upside as he possesses, it would be hard to think any team letting go of an ace would not ask about this guy. You might be thinking, "keep Severano, sign an ace this winter." You might be right, but this is another guy the Yankees can use to gauge interest.

2. Rob Refsnyder

We've heard about Refsnyder all season and we finally got a look at him. While he likely figures into the everyday plans for the Yankees at 2B, perhaps the team would be forced into thinking about dealing him for a pitcher, or for Ben Zobrist. Again, I don't see him moving, but this is another guy to keep an eye on as the Yanks wait and see. And yes, the Yankees would get more than just Zobrist in any hypothetical trade involving Refsnyder.

Gary Sanchez has been a top prospect in the Yankees' system for a few years, and this could be the year he's finally dealt. With Brian McCann and John Ryan Murphy blocking the catching position, Sanchez won't see a true opportunity to develop barring unforeseen injuries. So far in the Eastern League, Sanchez is currently third in home runs (12) and fifth in slugging percentage (.488). He's a name who attracts a ton of interest around the league.
