Atlanta Braves' Trade Deadline Will Be Shaped By First Week of Games After All-Star Break

All season long, the Atlanta Braves have been riding the fence of contention. The truth of the matter is that they would have already been far out of the race if they were in another division, but the NL East is close as usual. At the All-Star break the team is riding a season low, however, which leads to a question from most fans: How much selling will the Braves do at the MLB trade deadline in 2015? The answer will likely depend on how the team performs directly after the break.

The Braves are just as capable of going on a long winning streak as the Washington Nationals and New York Mets are capable of going on losing streaks. If something like that happens you can bet that a trade of Cameron Maybin will be much more difficult to pull the trigger on. However, if within a week of the break the Braves are double-digit games behind and sinking, such a trade of Maybin would be more simple to understand.

Sure the team is going to compete no matter what, but their stance at the trade deadline will likely move towards selling if they continue to sink after the All-Star break, while rebounding might shift them more towards buying or at least a middle ground. Some players are going to be traded and they will probably include fan favorites once again, but a team retooling for next season and the following season cannot pass up a real chance to add to their future if the current season is an understood loss. Fans who don’t want more big-name players to go should hope and cheer for a big winning streak right about now.
