The New York Mets have one of the best starting rotations in the MLB. However, Jonathon Niese has been the weakest part of the rotation since Dillon Gee was sent down to the minors. Bartolo Colon isn't getting any younger, as he is 42 years old. It wouldn't be too ridiculous to think the Mets could make an offer for another starter. Here are five starting pitchers on the trading block that New York should try to add to their roster.

5. David Price

Price has been a hot topic of discussion on the trading block. The Detroit Tigers are in a Wild Card race currently, but Price is a free agent at the end of the year. Price has a 9-2 record and a 2.38 ERA. He also has a lifetime record of 95-53 which is pretty impressive. Price is an aggressive pitcher and would give the Mets a stud left-hander in the rotation. New York would be a great landing spot for him.

Like Price, Zimmerman is a free agent at the end of the year. Being that the Washington Nationals are division rivals, it would be a great situation for Zimmerman to come into. With the Nationals unlikely to pay him the money he feels he deserves, he could stick it to his old team by playing in the NL East in New York. The right-hander has an 8-5 record with a 3.22 ERA this season.

3. Jeff Samardzija

Samardzija is a right-hander on the Chicago White Sox who could definitely help out the Mets' rotation. Samardzija is also a free agent at the end of the season. With the White Sox looking like they are in rebuilding mode, the Mets could make an offer for the 30-year-old.

2. Johnny Cueto

Cueto would be a good fit in the Big Apple with his odd pitching motion. With only a 6-6 record this season, he could definitely be steal if acquired. He has an ERA of just 2.73 and a WHIP of 0.90. Cueto would easily become a fan favorite in New York and could handle pitching in a bigger market.

Kazmir was once a young pitching prospect owned by the Mets. Also a left-hander, he could be the piece that the Mets are missing with Matz injured and Niese being up and down this year. Already familiar with the organization, Kazmir would be a nice fit in New York with a 2.49 ERA and a record of 5-5 on the year.
