MLB Trade Rumors: Top 5 Landing Spots For David Price

Now that the Detroit Tigers have put ace David Price on the trading block, there will be teams lined up for his services. He instantly jumps ahead of Cole Hamels and Johnny Cueto on the pitching market, so here are five teams that are most likely to make a play for the lefty.

5. Kansas City Royals

Price might be a little too rich for the Royals' blood, but their interest in Johnny Cueto indicates they may be willing to spend big at the deadline. Without a clear ace in the rotation, they really need to go for top-of-the-rotation pitching before July 31, so Price makes perfect sense.

4. Houston Astros

Like the Royals, the Astros' interest in Johnny Cueto indicates their willingness to dig into their deep prospect pool to acquire an ace this deadline. Price is better than Cueto and would require more prospects, but he might tempt the Astros to shoot for the stars in 2015. He would certainly give Houston the best lefty combo in the league with Dallas Keuchel and Price.

3. Chicago Cubs

The only way the Cubs will deal for Price is if they can pull off a sign-and-trade deal. If they offer the Tigers a package of prospects, a package no other team can come close to, and offer Price a seven-year, $210 million extension, would he really turn that down? It would keep the Cubs from having to compete with other teams' offers this offseason and would give them another ace down the stretch. This scenario might not be as unlikely as you think.

2. New York Yankees

The Bronx Bombers certainly seem like the strongest team in the AL East as of right now, but what if they added Price? They'd be one of the best teams in the entire American League. Their rotation has already overachieved this season, but with the addition of Price, they'd be bordering on elite. New York has the prospect base to get a deal done if they really want to.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles is the front-runner to land Cole Hamels, but with his inconsistency lately, the team might turn their attention to the better option in Price. Putting him behind Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke in the rotation would be pretty unfair come playoff time. L.A. would have to give up either Corey Seager or Julio Urias in a potential deal, though, so we will see just how far they're willing to go to compete for a World Series title in 2015.
