As they continue to hover around .500 and their playoff aspirations get further and further away, the Detroit Tigers have been forced to face reality. The reality is that they’re likely not going to seriously compete for a playoff spot. Even if they are, they might as well get some young talent for their free-agents-to-be. That’s why they’ve made Yoenis Cespedes available this deadline. Here are five teams likely to be after the outfielder.
5. Chicago Cubs
Caylor Arnold - USA Today SportsThe Cubs aren't expected to make an offensive splash at the deadline, but if they do, it could be Cespedes. Chicago needs an infusion of offense as they sit in the bottom half of the league in nearly every offensive category this season. Cespedes would provide that this season and they wouldn't be obligated to him next year. Depending on how many prospects the Cubs would have to give up, it might be worth a discussion.
4. Baltimore Orioles
Getty ImagesThe Orioles are actively looking for outfield help and are now one of the front-runners to land Cespedes. While Baltimore doesn't want to move a lot of team-controlled talent given the nine players who will become free agents after the season, they still may pull the trigger on a deal if they think it makes them significantly better. In most scenarios, regardless of the prospects involved, Cespedes would make them significantly better.
3. New York Mets
Getty ImagesIt's no secret the Mets are looking for outfield help, but they also appear unwilling to give up some of their top prospects to get it. That could cause them a problem in negotiations, but if they get more realistic, Cespedes may be well within their grasp. Given where he is in his career, New York could also potentially secure the inside track on signing him this offseason if they acquire him at the deadline.
2. Kansas City Royals

They have plenty of options and Cespedes is one of the best. Will the Tigers really trade within the division? If the Royals offer the best package of prospects, you have to think they will. Kansas City could use the help while Gordon is gone, and they will be crazy deep once he comes back if they're able to get Cespedes from their division rivals.
1. Los Angeles Angels
Getty ImagesLos Angeles has been the hottest team in baseball over the past month, and they could keep on rolling with Cespedes added to the lineup. If the team needs anything offensively, it's one more outfielder. Enter Cespedes, who would fit nicely into the middle-to-bottom of the Angels' order and make them one of the deepest offenses in baseball. An L.A. lineup with Cespedes added to the mix is just downright scary to think about.
