Atlanta Braves Rumors: Julio Teheran Trade Would be a Great Move

Recently there has been chatter around the Atlanta Braves regarding their possible willingness to trade starting pitcher Julio Teheran. Though some suggest that this is either way off base or something that would be nearly impossible, the Braves would do well to listen intently on offers for him. With the outstanding moves the team has made over the course of the last several months, they could afford to cut ties with Teheran if it meant a big return on the trade.

The whispers that he is not available could be true, but it is more likely that the front office is not shopping Teheran but is quietly listening to offers should any arise. Suggesting that they would need to have their ties blown off with the trade offer for the righty might be a little gamesmanship when it comes down to it. Facts being facts, Teheran has not been as good as expected this season.

While his poor season might just be something of a fluke, it is also possible that Teheran’s lone amazing season was the one which was a fluke. He had a ton of trouble in 2013 before rebounding for a great 2014. Everyone hopes he is the ace of the future but he might actually be more like the inconsistent pitcher he has been this season and the seasons before 2014.

Whatever the front office chooses to go with Teheran is a gamble. They either gamble that he is going to be worth the wait for consistency or roll the dice in the other direction and trust that he will be no better than any of the other promising options coming through the farm system. If they could get one top tier prospect and another mid-level for him right now, it might be the best they get for the money.
