5 Bold Predictions For The Rest Of The San Diego Padres' 2015 Season

The San Diego Padres have had a very disappointing season, especially considering the exciting offseason they had. The front office clearly isn't ready to give up on this season since they didn't trade anyone away at the trade deadline. If this season continues the way it has been going, then they will be forced to trade away some players who are about to be free agents. Here are 5 predictions for the Padres for the rest of the 2015 season.

There are a variety of ways this could happen, but Kennedy may very well not be a part of the Padres' plan beyond 2015. If this is the case, then Kennedy could go on waivers and be traded or released. He could also just be moved to the bullpen if they don't want to cut ties completely yet. They may want to let some September call-ups start if they aren't in the playoff picture and Kennedy's spot could be vacated for them.

The Padres have the talent to make a run at the playoffs, but injuries and poor play has prevented that so far. It is still possible, albeit unlikely, that the Padres can make a run at the playoffs. The Padres could easily find their stride down the stretch and give a wild card spot a chance. Even with a big run, it is hard to imagine them catching teams like the Giants, Nationals or Pirates regardless of how well they play.

If the Padres don't make a big run at the playoffs, then there is little reason to risk Myers re-injuring himself. His wrist has been doing a lot better lately, but players have been known to get reinjured even if they feel better than they did before surgery. With this idea they could opt to just let Myers keep rehabilitating to make sure he is 100 percent for the start of next season.

Upton was a hot trade topic from May up until the trade deadline ended and he could still help a contender. If the Padres fall far enough out of the playoff picture there is little reason to think they won't move Upton and get some solid prospects in return. A powerful bat like Upton is a hard thing to find this time of year and the Padres could benefit from a team getting desperate and overpaying for a two-month rental of Upton.

Shields' contract for the next three years will pay him a lot of money and it seems like he is already beginning to slow down at 34. The Yankees did not improve their rotation at the deadline. This could easily lead to the Yankees getting desperate and trying to get a top of the rotation guy like Shields, even with all the money he is owed the next few seasons. The Dodgers could be another candidate to take Shields.
