In an event that will surely shock the baseball world, former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson has died today after suffering from massive organ failure and slipping into a coma. Hanson was Rookie of the Year in 2009 after posting a 2.89 era with an 11-4 record.

Hanson was never able to return to form after dealing with rotator cuff issues. He had last pitched in the majors in 2013 and had been in the minors ever since. It’s not yet known what caused him to slip into a coma. Prayers to his family during this terrible time.
