The Milwaukee Brewers spent most of 2015 in a dogfight to get out of the cellar in the National League Central. They beat out the Cincinnati Reds and in the process got some much needed experience for their prospects headed into 2016. While 2016 may end up being a lost year, here are the five players that could help them contend in 2017 and make 2016 bearable.

David Goforth is seen as a low leverage reliever based on usage by the Brewers in his major league and AAA time. While that is not the most valuable tool to have, Goforth can save the other young pitchers with multiple innings of relief when necessary. He has the upside of potentially becoming an elite setup if he can get his control corrected.

4. Jorge Lopez

Jorge Lopez is the Brewers' hope of the future. They hope that he will become an ace after promoting him from AA for two big league starts this season. He may need a bit more seasoning, but when he comes up he needs to contribute.

3. Ramon Flores

Ramon Flores has been traded twice in the last year, first from the Yankees and now from the Mariners. He got a cup of coffee with the Mariners and did not impress. The Brewers need him to be their top backup outfielder and see if he can grow into more down the road.

2. Yadiel Rivera

Yadiel Rivera is the likely heir apparent at shortstop for Jean Segura. They also have Orlando Arcia coming up through the ranks. Much like the Chicago Cubs had this year, the Brewers will have to decide whether Rivera is a shortstop or belongs elsewhere on the infield. They also have Jonathan VIllar vying for playing time, so Rivera needs to be his best to stay with the big league club.

Zach Davies made six starts in 2015 and looks ready to stay in the big leagues. He is penciled into the middle of the rotation going into next season. He and Lopez will be a pair in the Brewers' rotation for years to come if things go as planned. With Rivera and Arcia up the middle and Flores providing help off the bench, the future looks bright starting 2017. Enjoy watching the youth get better in 2016.
