5 New York Mets Who Need To Stay Healthy In 2016

The New York Mets were able to survive a barrage of injuries in 2015 and still reach the World Series, but the team certainly doesn’t want to take any chances on the injury front next season. New York’s margin for error isn’t particularly high, and while they have some depth in certain areas, they can’t afford injuries at other positions. Here are five players the Mets need to stay healthy for them in 2016.

5. Noah Syndergaard

Syndergaard is the only one of the Mets' five young, talented starters who has not had Tommy John surgery, so he may be the pitcher most at risk for injury. Obviously, the Mets have plenty of rotation depth, but Syndergaard is on the verge of becoming a star and may be the most talented pitcher on New York's staff, so it would hurt to lose him for any amount of time in 2016.

4. Travis d'Arnaud

It's well known that d'Arnaud has a long history of injuries, including multiple DL stints last season that interrupted what could have been an All-Star caliber season. The Mets have some depth behind the plate with Kevin Plawecki capable of filling in if d'Arnaud goes down again, but they are going to need d'Arnaud to make an impact offensively in 2016. New York can't afford to have him to spend more time on the DL.

3. Curtis Granderson

Granderson was a huge yet underrated part of New York's success last season, as he played nearly every day and gave the Mets consistent production all season. They're going to need a similar output from him in 2016. The Mets may also need Granderson to hit leadoff again in 2016, so if he were to go down with an injury, New York may not have someone to replace him in that spot.

2. David Wright

Wright's health is a huge question mark heading into 2016, as no one knows how often he'll be able to play with his back condition or if he can avoid another long stint on the DL. Unless the Mets bring back Juan Uribe or make an unexpected signing, they don't have a true backup third baseman on the roster to fill in if Wright misses time. This means they would likely have to plug in Wilmer Flores and hope for the best if Wright is hurt.

1. Jeurys Familia

Familia is one of the most important players on New York's roster, because there is such a huge drop off between him and his replacement. While Addison Reed has experience as a closer and Jenrry Mejia could return late in the season, the back end of New York's bullpen doesn't look all that impressive without Familia pitching the ninth inning. If he were to go down with an injury in 2016, the Mets could be in serious trouble.

Yoenis Cespedes Leaves Spring Training In Unbelievable Vehicle

Just when we thought Yoenis Cespedes couldn't be any cooler, he shows up to spring training like a boss in this epic vehicle, which is apparently a motorized tricycle. The New York Mets outfielder is having a great time since re-signing with the club. If the swagger he's exuding this winter is in any way indicative of how he will play in 2016, the Mets are going to be in excellent shape.
