Predicting The Top 5 National League Offenses In 2016

By Bryan Zarpentine

Offense in MLB has taken a hit in recent years, as PEDs have (we hope) been removed from the game and baseball is suddenly flooded with talented, young pitchers. Of course, there are still a few teams that can flat out rake and put crooked numbers on the scoreboard night after night. Heading into the 2016 season, here is a prediction of the top five offensive teams in the National League.

5. New York Mets

If the Mets get close to a full season out of Yoenis Cespedes, David Wright, Michael Conforto and Travis d'Arnaud, which wasn't the case last year, they have a deep enough lineup to be a top-five offensive club in 2016.

4. Arizona Diamondbacks

The D'Backs were second in the NL in runs last season, and even after trading away Ender Inciarte, Arizona has plenty of offensive firepower. Paul Goldschmidt is still one of the premier offensive players in the game, and he has plenty of support.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers

With Corey Seager at shortstop, a bounce-back season from Yasiel Puig and a big bat like Adrian Gonzalez in the middle of everything, the Dodgers should have a lineup capable of putting up big numbers after leading the NL in home runs in 2015.

2. Chicago Cubs

Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist being added to a lineup that's already full of young, talented offensive players is a recipe for a powerful offense. It'd be disappointing if the Cubs weren't among the league leaders in runs scored in 2016.

1. Colorado Rockies

By playing half their games at Coors Field, the Rockies are always the top offensive club in the National League. Having Carlos Gonzalez and Nolan Arenado in the lineup also goes a long way.
