Seattle Mariners’ 5 Biggest Weaknesses Going Into 2016 Spring Training

The Seattle Mariners feel confident going into the 2016 season. But just like almost any other team in MLB, the Mariners still have questions on their roster. Some are seen as minor inconveniences while others could end up being the demise of the Mariners this season. Seattle looks to be a contender in 2016, but the weaknesses they have could put a major curve in their plans. Although there are always things that need some adjusting, these are the five biggest weaknesses on the Mariners heading into spring training.

5. New Manager

Scott Servais could have a long, successful career as the manager of the Mariners, but at this point he has never managed a game in his life. Even with the great coaches behind him, he is bound to make a few mistakes at the beginning of the season.

4. Left-Handed Relief

The Mariners do have left-hander Charlie Furbush for the later innings, but besides him the crop of left-handed relievers is thin at best. Vidal Nuno and Mike Montgomery find themselves as the only other lefty relief options.

3. Prospects In Triple-A

The Mariners have one of the worst farm systems in MLB at the moment. The list of future stars is all but non-existent. Realistically, if any of the core players get hurt, it could mean the end of the Mariners' season.

2. Depth at Catcher

Jesus Sucre broke his leg last month, and Mike Zunino needs some more developing in Triple-A. Steve Clevenger is seen as a backup catcher at best, so Chris Iannetta needs to stay healthy and produce for the Mariners to have any chance.

1. Staying Healthy

Robinson Cano had surgery this offseason. Hisashi Iwakuma saw a big payday with the Los Angeles Dodgers vanish as he was considered a health risk. If players like Cano and Iwakuma have health issues, the Mariners' hopes of the postseason are gone.
