Texas Rangers Fan Wins Free Season Tickets By Blasting Home Run

By Timothy Downs

Just last week, the Texas Rangers announced they would give select fans an opportunity to win free season tickets by hitting a home run in a contest called “Swing For Your Seats.”

This wasn’t open to every random fan, however. Contestants were first required to put 25 percent down on their desired ticket plan for the upcoming season, and were subsequently given a chance to win it all by blasting a dinger out of Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Over the weekend, the #SwingForTheFences festivities kicked off. Surprisingly, someone actually got the job done. Byron Anderson, a Texas middle school teacher and coach, turned on a pitch and deposited it into the left field bleachers to win four season tickets.

There was some confusion initially over whether or not former college baseball players were allowed to enter the contest. However, Anderson checked prior to entering, and the Rangers gave him the green light.

Anderson’s Alma mater, Tarleton State University, was incredibly proud.

Rangers legend Michael Young took part in the festivities for fun, and even he wasn’t able to park one over the wall. Thus, what Anderson did is truly nothing short of remarkable.
