Colorado Rockies' Trevor Story Becomes First Player To Hit Six Home Runs In First Four Games

By Jason Fletcher

A lot of Colorado Rockies fans were upset when the team traded the face of the franchise, Troy Tulowitzki, to the Toronto Blue Jays prior to the 2015 MLB Trade Deadline. Despite the team’s need for pitching, and abundance of offense, it was hard for fans to say goodbye to one of the best players to ever don a Rockies uniform.

As part of the return for Tulowitzki, the Rockies received shortstop Jose Reyes who started the rest of the 2015 season at shortstop for the team. Reyes was expected to start the 2016 season at shortstop as well, but he’s currently suspended for an offseason domestic violence charge that was recently dropped.

With a need to find a shortstop in spring training, the Rockies let the players battle it out and rookie Trevor Story ended up winning the job. Unless you’re a Rockies fan, an expert on MLB prospects or play fantasy baseball, you likely had never heard of Story before the season started.

On opening day, Story hit two home runs in the Rockies’ 10-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He then proceeded to hit a home run in each of the next two games to run his season total to four.

Playing his first game in front of the home crowd in Denver on Friday, Story cranked two more home runs against the San Diego Padres to become the first player ever to hit home runs in each of the first four games of his career. He also became the fastest player ever to hit six home runs in a season as he did it in his team’s fourth game.

Obviously this sort of torrid pace won’t last as pitchers watch film and make adjustments, but the Rockies seem to have found another superstar to pair with Nolan Arenado. Those two guys will put up ridiculous numbers in Coors Field before all is said and done.
