5 Prospects Who Will Impact 2016 MLB Playoff Race

Nearly six weeks into the MLB season, fans think they have a good handle on which teams will be involved in playoff races during the second half of the season. However, certain teams may get a boost later in the season if they’re able to call up some of their top prospects. Here are five prospects we may see later in the season who will have a chance to impact the playoff race.

5. Blake Snell, Tampa Bay Rays

If the Rays make the playoffs, it'll be on the back of their rotation. Snell's big league debut went well last month, and he could add another big-time arm to Tampa Bay's rotation the second half of the season and give the Rays a boost.

4. Joey Gallo, Texas Rangers

Gallo is mashing at Triple-A with an OPS over 1.000. He can play either corner outfield spot, third base, or DH, so the Rangers should be able to find room for him at some point. He'll provide a big power boost during the stretch run.

3. Julio Urias, Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers aren't exactly hurting for another talented lefty in their rotation, but Urias is too good to spend the entire season at Triple-A. At some point, the Dodgers will be comfortable calling up the still 19-year-old prodigy.

2. Tyler Glasnow, Pittsburgh Pirates

Glasnow doesn't appear to be challenged much by Triple-A, so it should only be a matter of time until the Pirates bring him up. In such a competitive NL Central, a pitcher like Glasnow could make a huge difference in Pittsburgh's rotation.

Turner is hitting .336/.407/.477 in Triple-A this season, proving that he's all but ready for full-time duty in the majors. He'll soon be Washington's best option at shortstop and a potential difference maker in the Nats' middle infield.
