5 Players The Minnesota Twins Should Look To Move Before The Trade Deadline

By Brad Berreman

The Minnesota Twins have won their last two games, but at 10-26 heading into Monday they are clearly sellers between now and July’s trade deadline. With that in mind, here are five players the Twins should be looking to deal.

5. IF Eduardo Nunez

Nunez has been an offensive bright spot so far this year, with a .330/.374/.474 slash-line. But this looks like the absolute peak for his value, and Nunez's versatility with one more year of arbitration eligibility should appeal to other teams.

4. RP Glen Perkins

Twins fans won't like this one, but Perkins has now had parts of three straight seasons derailed by physical issues and he hasn't pitched since April 10 due to a shoulder issue. An aging, increasingly injury-prone closer has no place on a bad team.

3. SP Ervin Santana

An 80-game suspension derailed Santana's 2015 season, but he has pitched solidly in six starts (3.38 ERA) this year. The Twins don't usually look to trade players in the midst of a long-term deal, but Santana should be a notable exception.

2. SP Ricky Nolasco

Nolasco went at least 6.1 innings in each of his first four starts this year (3.25 ERA; 24:3 K/BB). That has given way to a 7.56 ERA over his last three starts, so Nolasco needs to start pitching better for the Twins to try and shed his contract.

The right field experiment with Miguel Sano is not going well, and his offense is suffering (.229, 51 strikeouts). Plouffe is nearing 30, with one more full season before reaching free agency, so the Twins should view him as their No. 1 trade asset.
