5 Detroit Tigers Who Need To Step Up In June

It is hard to believe, but Memorial Day weekend is nearly here and it will soon be June. The Detroit Tigers have certainly been playing better baseball as of late, but they still have work to do. Here are five guys who will need to start stepping up next month.

5. Mark Lowe

In his first season after signing a two-year deal with the Tigers, Mark Lowe got off to a decent start with his new club, but he has posted a 10.57 ERA in the month of May. The Tigers will need their setup man to be better than that going forward.

4. Jose Iglesias

Although he is still known mostly for his defense, some became optimistic about Jose Iglesias' offensive potential after he batted .300 through 120 games last year. This May, however, he is hitting just .176.

3. Mike Pelfrey

Although he has begun to pitch better as of late, Mike Pelfrey is still 0-4 with a 5.55 ERA an a 1.81 WHIP. After being signed to a reported two-year, $16 million deal over the winter, the Tigers will need him to start turning in some quality starts.

2. Anibal Sanchez

After a rough season last year, Anibal Sanchez is off to another tough start in 2016, going 3-6 with a 6.04 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP over 10 starts. The Tigers are going to need him to be much better than that down the stretch.

1. Justin Upton

Nearly two months into the season, Justin Upton is still hitting just .223/.270/.319 with a pair of homers. He has sat out the last couple of games with a quad issue, but the Tigers really need to get him going at some point in time.
