5 Players The Oakland Athletics Could Trade This Summer

By Bryan Zarpentine

An inordinate amount of injuries have turned 2016 into a lost season for the Oakland Athletics, ensuring that the team will be sellers on the trade market this summer as they continue to rebuild the organization from the bottom up. The silver lining is that the A’s have a few players, if healthy, who will be desirable on the trade market. This will enable them to pull off a few trades that will help the team in the future. Here are five players Oakland could look to trade this summer.

5. Coco Crisp

Crisp isn't having a great season, but he could provide some outfield depth and a veteran presence for a contender. Oakland will try to move him, lest they end up activating his $13 million vesting option for next season, which would be a disaster.

Butler has another year on his contract, but the A's will move him if they can. His power has disappeared and his playing time is dwindling. It'll be tough to find a buyer, but Oakland will see if they can find a team willing to take Butler.

3. Danny Valencia

There's no pressure on the A's to trade Valencia, but he's versatile defensively and having a great offensive season, so there could be offers. If Oakland gets an offer they can't refuse, they won't hesitate to trade Valencia to a contender.

2. Josh Reddick

Reddick is close to coming back from injury, and he's an impending free agent, making him a top trade chip. He was having a strong season before getting hurt, so once he proves he's healthy there should be plenty of suitors looking to trade for him.

1. Rich Hill

A recent injury, along with his history of injuries, will hurt Hill's value. But his salary is fairly low and he's pitched great this year, so if he's healthy at the deadline, the A's may be able to get something substantial in a trade for Hill.
