It is hard to believe, but the month of June is about over, and it will soon be the All-Star break, the unofficial halfway point of the MLB season. The Detroit Tigers still have a chance to contend, but they have had a very up-and-down season thus far. They will need the following five players to step up in the second half.

Steven Moya — With J.D. Martinez on the sidelines, the Tigers will need Steven Moya to cushion the blow to a certain extent. Moya has been battling a sore knee lately, but he has already been plenty impressive, hitting .322 with three homers for the Tigers.

Justin Verlander — Although he recently went through a stretch in which he had a 1.93 ERA over seven starts, Justin Verlander has now posted a 6.75 ERA over his past three starts. The Tigers will need him to right the ship very soon.

Jordan Zimmermann — Although he was simply fantastic earlier on in the year, Jordan Zimmermann has posted a 6.52 ERA in five starts since returning from a groin injury. It would be huge for Detroit if he could get back to pitching the way he was.

Bruce Rondon — It seems like Tigers fans have been waiting on the emergence of Bruce Rondon for forever now, and he has been given yet another chance. Rondon has a 1.29 ERA and a 9.00 K/9 right now, and the Tigers will need him to keep that up.

Mark Lowe — After signing a two-year deal to be a setup man for Detroit, Mark Lowe has posted a 10.13 ERA through his first 28 games. The Tigers desperately need him to start pitching better.
