Orioles' Adam Jones Greeted With Standing Ovation At Fenway Park After Hearing Racial Slurs On Monday

On Monday night, Baltimore Orioles slugger Adam Jones told reporters some Boston Red Sox fans shouted racial slurs and threw peanuts at him at Fenway Park.

New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia chimed in on Tuesday, saying African-American MLB players expect to receive racial comments when playing in Boston.

The Red Sox released the following statement on the incident.

The Red Sox want to publicly apologize to Adam Jones and the entire Orioles organization for what occurred at Fenway Park Monday night,” the Red Sox said in a statement released to USA TODAY Sports and other outlets. “No player should have an object thrown at him on the playing field, nor be subjected to any kind of racism at Fenway Park. The Red Sox have zero tolerance for such inexcusable behavior, and our entire organization and our fans are sickened by the conduct of an ignorant few.

On Tuesday night, the Fenway faithful serenaded Jones with a standing ovation during his first-at bat.
