Orioles' Manny Machado Rips Red Sox In Fiery Expletive-Laden Diatribe

By Timothy Downs

All five AL East teams hate each other’s guts, but the Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox rivalry is perhaps the nastiest in MLB right now.

On Tuesday night, Orioles third baseman Manny Machado was thrown at by a Red Sox pitcher for the second time this season, and was none too pleased about it after the game.

From USA Today Sports:

They’re still thinking that the slide that I did when I had no intention of hurting anybody,’’ Machado said. “And I’m still trying to get hit at. Thrown at my (expletive) head. (Expletive) thrown at everywhere. (Expletive) bull …

“If you’re going to (expletive) hit me, go ahead, (expletive) hit me. You know, don’t let (expletive) keep lingering around and (expletive) around. Keep (expletive) trying to hit people. That’s (expletive) bull.

“MLB should do something about it. (Expletive) pitchers go out there with their (expletive) balls in their hand and throwing 100 mph trying to hit people. I got a (expletive) bat too. I can go up there and crush somebody if I wanted to, but you know what, I’ll get suspended for the year and the pitcher will only get suspended for two games.

“That’s not cool. That’s not cool.”

Tensions first flared between Machado and the Red Sox late last month when Machado slid in high to second base and spiked Dustin Pedroia.

That weekend, Red Sox pitcher Matt Barnes threw at Machado’s head and was consequently ejected.

An interesting dialogue between Machado and Pedroia followed in which Pedroia appears to say he had nothing to do with Barnes’ decision to throw at him.

Fast forwarding to Monday night, Red Sox star Mookie Betts was hit by a Dylan Bundy pitch that appeared to be intentional, reigniting the schism.

The drama could have ended there, but it didn’t. As mentioned, Red Sox ace Chris Sale threw at Machado during Boston’s 5-2 win on Tuesday night.

Machado answered by clobbering a dinger off Sale in the sixth-inning, and took his time rounding the bases.

There you have it, folks. This Orioles vs. Red Sox rivalry is now laden with enough storylines and plot twists to make a soap opera jealous, and doesn’t project to simmer down anytime soon…
