Being an MLB umpire is a truly thankless job. Not only do umpires spend most of the season away from their families while traveling across the country from ballpark to ballpark, but they are hated by fans, players, and managers alike, and are in constant danger of getting blasted with baseballs moving at high speeds.
On Thursday, Mike Muchlinski worked home plate during Oakland A’s vs. Minnesota Twins at Target Field, and unfortunately got hit with a 94 MPH fastball from A’s reliever Santiago Casilla directly in the nuts.
