Tim Tebow Pays No Mind To Haters Who Say He Didn't Deserve Minor-League Promotion

By Timothy Downs

Tim Tebow was controversially promoted from low-A ball (Columbia Fireflies) to Advanced-A ball with the Port St. Lucie Mets over the weekend despite hitting .220 with 3 HR and 23 RBI in 64 games this season.

Clearly, Tebow’s statline is mediocre at best. So, why would the New York Mets make this move considering there are likely other players who deserve it more?

Money, of course.

The Mets do not own the Columbia Fireflies, but they DO own the Port St. Lucie Mets. And now they want to cash in on the rest of the season as Tebow has been a huge draw thus far in his short baseball career.

Tebow spoke to reporters following the announcement of his promotion, and was indirectly asked if he deserved it.

Naturally, Tebow handled it with class, but essentially deflected the question.

For me, it’s not something I have to answer. There’s a lot smarter, wiser people than me that make those decisions. I just try and show up and play hard every day.

2017 has been a nightmare for the Mets at the MLB level, as injury after injury has rendered a squad with World Series aspirations a fourth-place team in the worst division in baseball at 34-41.

Thus, it’s easy to understand what the Mets are doing and why they are doing it.  However, there’s no way to publicly spin Tebow’s promotion as anything other than a money grab…
