JUST IN: the Dodgers reportedly acquire Yu Darvish from the Rangers.
— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) July 31, 2017
Darvish, 30, went 52-39 with a 3.42 ERA and 1.181 WHIP in 122 starts over five seasons played for the Rangers, which is incredibly solid statline for an AL starter.
However, Darvish is oftentimes thought of as “injury prone” as he missed the entire 2015 season, as well as around 15-20 starts in 2014 and 2016 combined.
Leading up to the trade deadline, it was thought Darvish would still consider re-signing with Texas this fall even if he was traded to a contender as a rental for the remainder of 2017.
During his first post-trade press conference on Monday, Darvish essentially put that idea to bed for good.
I don’t think I’m coming back.
Considering how deep the Dodgers’ pockets are, it’s fair to assume Los Angeles will make a legitimate attempt to keep Darvish in town assuming he pitches well and stays healthy.
