Ben Henderson needs a chill pill

If you ask most mma fighters, they will tell you that they strive to be the best in the business.

But how many of them actually believe that they can be the best fighter in the UFC?

For many fighters its just rhetoric that they spout.

For Ben Henderson, its not just rhetoric, its a belief and a goal he feels is realistic.

During a media teleconference in support of UFC 144 Ben Henderson said, “I want to be the best fighter, period,” he said.

“That goal is still in my sights. I still wake up thinking about that.”

“I don’t think me beating Frankie gets me anywhere near the conversation. I’d have to beat Frankie and beat a couple of other guys and defend the belt – what is Anderson up to? He’s up to 12 right now? Thirteen? So after I beat whatever Anderson’s record is – whatever he stops at, 14 times, 15 times, after I beat that – then the conversation is going to begin.”

Wow. Take that in for a second.

Henderson is a talented fighter but can a guy win a title before he begins evoking one of the best fighters in the history of the sport?

He’ll get his chance to to grab hold of the lightweight division on Saturday when he faces Frankie Edgar in the lightweight division.

Edgar has an amazing chin. His heart in the ring is even more impressive. If Henderson can defeat Edgar he clearly is a top 10 UFC fighter.

But don’t call your own shot.

Henderson needs to tone down the rhetoric and just get to fighting.

It’s not especially becoming of him to run his mouth.
