Diaz’s immaturity catches up with him

The biggest understatement of the year is that Nick Diaz is immature.

If his first positive test for marijuana did not provide enough evidence then his actions before a title fight with Georges St. Pierre should suffice. Diaz did not show up for press conferences preceding his impending bout with the 170 lb champ. It showed that Diaz is not in tune with the business side of the UFC.

It continued when he again tested positive for marijuana after his loss to Carlos Condit for the interim Welterweight title.

His first positive test came after a thrilling gogoplata victory over Takanori Gomi at Pride 33. The victory followed by the positive test highlighted the good and bad with Diaz.

The amazing submission presented his propensity to pull off unprecedented submission moves. The following positive test highlights his lack of forward thinking.

After beating down BJ Penn, in a post fight interview, Diaz went off on an unprompted diatribe. He said, “Where you at Georges? Where you at m***** f*****?”

According to Dana White, GSP responded, ‘He’s the most disrespectful human being I’ve ever met, and I’m going to put the worst beating you’ve ever seen on him in the UFC.’

These events illustrate a childish mentality.

Because of such a mentality Diaz will suffer the consequences. Today, the Nevada State Athletic Commission formalize a temporary suspension by way of a vote.

After the positive test, NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer compiled a complaint and entered it with the Nevada Attorney General’s Office. Kizer’s complaint asked the Attorney Generals Office to temporarily suspend Diaz’s fight license if it were approved at a formal hearing.

According to mmajunkie.com, a meeting today approved a Kizer’s request.

“NSAC commissioners requested that Diaz’s full license application and purse information be made available during the formal hearing. A representative for the attorney general’s office also noted that the issue of medical marijuana was likely to be brought up since Diaz holds a license for medical cannabis in his home state of California.”

The results are neither harsh nor unexpected. It’s exactly what should have happened. It’s not Diaz’s first rodeo.
