1st Round Knockout: Dan Henderson Is Ready For Jon Jones, At Least His Mouth Is

By Chris Shelton

Dan Henderson’s mouth is writing checks that his fist will have to cash.

Henderson will take on Jones at UFC 151 on Sept. 1 in Las Vegas in a battle for light heavyweight gold.

Henderson is the last “old guard” competitors that Jon Jones will face. He’s cleared the division of it’s former champions, beating four so far. It has been too easy, so easy in fact that it has been astonishing.

Henderson is next.

I hope that he is ready for the full repertoire that Jones has. It’s impressive.

He’s the last chance for a veteran to defeat Jones and is very confident in his ability to secure the belt. After Henderson comes a slew of new guys who are currently making a name for themselves, think Ryan Bader, Alexander Gustafsson and Phil Davis as the next line of contenders.

“I don’t know if I can export that. How do you guys see him? He is what he is and I enjoy fighting guys like that, that are a little bit cocky. It’s funny to put them in their place (laughs).”

Muhammad Ali always said that it is not bragging if you can back it up. Well Hendo better back it up. Jones is one the best prospects in UFC history. But Henderson is also a great fighter, coming off a great victory against Shogun Rua. The five round thrill-fest was one of the greatest fights that I have ever seen.

Hendo earned his title shot.

He just peaked my interest in the early September bout. Stylistically, Henderson is on of the few light heavyweights who has the ability to finish Jones. His knockouts are well-known. Henderson’s knockout of Michael Bisping is one of the most well-know of all-time.

Jones, legitimately, could suffer the same fate.
