Anderson Silva vs. Stephan Bonnar Will Be A 3 Round Fight
UFC 153 looked like it was in jeopardy, but out of nowhere Anderson Silva and Stephan Bonnar stepped up on short notice. It’s things like this that make the UFC so great and why they are the best MMA promotion out there right now. This fight is set to be the main event, and it was announced by Ariel Helwani that is would be a three round fight.

If you’re wondering, Silva-Bonnar is a three-round main event. #ufc153
This should make things interesting as Anderson Silva hasn’t competed in a three round fight in a while now. Silva has fought at light heavyweight just once in the UFC, which was against James Irvin. A bout that saw Anderson Silva utterly dominant Irvin, sending him to the canvas after a devastating straight right. It will be interesting to see how Silva fairs at 205lbs again, but he is arguably the best MMA fighter that fans have ever seen and has the capabilities to beat anyone.
Stephan Bonnar made it clear to Dana White that he wanted this fight. It is commendable for Bonnar stepping up even know it will be one of the hardest fights of his life, but that is what MMA is all about. It’s about testing yourself against the best competition in the world, and that is exactly what Bonnar is about to do.
Bonnar is currently on a three fight win streak in the division, and a win over Silva would be the upset of the century. He has had over an eight month layoff since competing against Kyle Kingsbury back in November, and it will be interesting to see what his plan of attack is against the pound-for-pound king.
Regardless of the relevancy of this fight, it has the makings to be fight of the night. Maybe this is just a sign of things to come for Anderson Silva and the light heavyweight division. It’s a win-win scenario for both fighters, and the UFC has saved the event from being cancelled.
