One FC announces bantamweight championship match between Soo Chul Kim and Leandro Issa
Bantamweights Leandro Issa and Soo Chul Kim will once again meet in the cage, however this time the winner will become One FC’s inaugural Bantamweight champion.
Issa and Kim will meet at One FC: Rise of Kings at the Singapore Indoor Stadium at Kallang, Singapore, which will be the Asian-based promotion’s sixth event on Oct. 6.
The two fighters had previously met at One FC’s first event “Champion vs. Champion” where Issa walked away with a decision victory.
Issa is more than qualified to receive a crack at becoming One FC’s first champion. He is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak and has been making a name for himself fighting in promotions across Asia like Art of War and Martial Combat.
The addition to Kim to the title match is a surprise. Not because he lost to Issa in their first fight, but rather his fight record is 6-4 to Issa’s 10-2. This match would also be Kim’s fifth fight of 2012 and he is currently 2-2 for the year.
Putting fight records aside, having Kim and Issa is a good idea. Fans that have been following the promotion will recognize Issa and Kim from past events and it gives One FC a chance to build up their own champions, which will help establish themselves as a growing mixed martial arts promotion.
Depending on how far One FC can go, they may have champions in all of their divisions before 2013.
In addition to the bantamweight title match, One FC: Rise of Kings will feature two more title matches.
The event will also feature well-known fighters like former Dream champion Shinya Aoki facing French fighter Arnaud “The Game” Lepont , Brazilian Zorobabel Moreira, who is coming off of a huge win over Roger Huerta, and Dream and K-1 fighter Melvin Manhoef.
