UFC president Dana White was asked during an interview with Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight who he thought was the best promoter in history. In response, White mentioned such names as circus icon P.T. Barnum, pro wrestling guru Vince McMahon and boxing kingpin Don King as possible candidates for the title. He also mentioned a person that might seem like a surprising choice, especially to most fans of mixed martial arts: Kris Jenner, or as he called her, “Mama Kardashian.”
“Mama Kardashian, if she isn’t the greatest promoter of all time, I don’t know who is. The show is about nothing and her daughters are some of the most famous people on earth and are making millions. I don’t think you could count her out.”
When put in those terms, it is hard to argue with the opinion that Jenner is certainly one of the greatest promoters of all time – if not the greatest. White himself, however, could certainly stake a very strong claim to that title as well. He said that he could not comment personally on where he would rank on the list of history’s greatest promoters, but his accomplishments speak for themselves. White almost singlehandedly took a sport that seemed destined to become nothing more than a footnote in history and turned it into one of the fastest-growing and most popular sports around the world. Although his sometimes ruthless business tactics and occasionally abrasive personality have not always won him many friends, no one can deny his effectiveness or ability.
