Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has never exactly been known for his mental stability and common sense. Look to his 2008 arrest following an energy drink- and insomnia-fueled high speed police chase that resulted in multiple collisions for evidence of that. However, his latest stunt – releasing a “how to pick up girls” video that seemed to “humorously” give advice on how to successfully rape someone – was in poor taste even for him. Now, Jackson claims that was his plan all along.
Jackson told well-known MMA reporter Ariel Helwani,
“…I was kind of like, I had to put it out there, the timing, I was trying to get kicked out of the UFC. I have to keep it real. I was trying. They [the UFC] were smart. They knew it, they saw right through it.”
Of course, as with many of Jackson’s statements, this one must be taken with a grain of salt. After all, in the same breath in which he claims he knew the video was inappropriate and that he released it as part of his ongoing campaign to be released from his UFC contract, he also claims, “The reason why it wasn’t funny is because the guy released it too soon. It was supposed to be like Dave Chappelle type of stuff. I was supposed to do a series of videos and I was going to be like Dave Chappelle. I like and I wanted to be like Dave Chappelle. The guy liked the video so much he put it on an MMA website, I don’t understand. I was supposed to say, this is what I hope happens to any guy, lowlife, trying to rape women.”
Which explanation, if either, is accurate is anyone’s guess.
