Ronda Rousey: “I Don’t Trust any of the Drug Testing”
Strikeforce women’s135 pound champion Ronda Rousey has achieved a remarkable level of success over the past year. That success has left many wondering how she would fare against the woman who once ruled the 145 pound division with an iron fist, Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino (formerly Santos).
Rousey has made it clear that she would welcome a fight with Justino, but that she would only agree to it if Justino dropped down to her natural weight class – 135 lbs. During an interview with Sherdog radio, she explained that her reason for this requirement is a lack of faith in the sport’s drug testing.
Regarding the possibility of fighting Justino at 145 lbs., Rousey said,
“I could, but I’m choosing not to because honestly, I don’t trust any of the drug testing. I’ve been doing this a very, very long time and I was in the Olympics with the most stringent drug testing in the world. You know a lot of those people are doping. There’s new advances in drug testing every single year because people find new ways to cheat. The only way I can really feel like it would be a fair fight is if it’s down at 135. If she’s doped to the gills and making 145, it’s not really that far-fetched for me to think that someone not on steroids could move down a division.”
Justino is currently serving a one-year suspension for testing positive for anabolic steroids. She will be permitted to return to competition after Dec. 16 of this year.
